Monmouth Rugby On The Up

Monmouth Rugby Club enjoyed a barnstorming weekend last weekend.

Monmouth 1st XV notched up a record breaking 123 points to nil victory over Tredegar RFC at home at the Sports Ground. This is the biggest ever points victory in the Clubs 142 year history.

New MRFC Rugby Ambassadors, Welsh International and Newport Gwent Dragon, Hallam Amos, and Cardiff Students and Welsh Students International, Cameron Watson-Boycott, attended at the Club on Remembrance Sunday to meet the 300 plus young rugby players from Monmouth and Gwernyfed RFC.

All of the young players observed a two minute silence at 11 o’clock on Remembrance Sunday, whilst lining up 10 metres apart in the middle of Chippenham Playing Fields. A Monmouth Young Rugby photo followed before the rugby began.

All of the young rugby players had the opportunity to meet Hallam and Cameron at the Monmouth RFC Clubhouse, where the pair signed rugby balls and other memorabilia for their young fans. The Monmouth RFC Rugby Ambassadors have been tasked with assisting the new MRFC Rugby Schools Officers in developing rugby within the Monmouth area.

Monmouth RFC Chairman, Lloyd Davies, commented:-

“What a weekend for Monmouth RFC! Our past players and sponsors watched the 1stXV achieve a record points victory on Saturday. On Sunday it was wonderful to see the children show such discipline on Remembrance Sunday and have such fun in meeting Hallam and Cameron - it was absolutely fantastic - a great weekend!

We very much look forward to seeing the progress that Hallam and Cameron, along with Andrew Davies and Dan White, our Schools Rugby Officers, can make in developing rugby both within the Schools and the Club – they certainly brought an excitement to proceedings on Sunday.

We have worked hard to ensure that we have great clubhouse facilities, the best kit and the best coaching in the area so that we are able to effectively develop the game and engage with children, parents and families alike. Everyone is welcome – please come along and join in the fun.”
