Monmouth RFC Massive Lotto win £12,500.00!!!

After buying a Monmouth RFC lotto ticket at a local outlet in the town a lucky local, who regularly buys a lotto ticket, scooped in excess of £12,500 of winnings during June. The total pay-out from launch is now in excess of £25,000, demonstrating that the Lotto has established itself as part of daily life in the town.

Behind the headlines, the concept of supporting the Lotto is one of helping Monmouth Rugby Club, a family orientated community based club, the opportunity to re-invest surplus funds back into rugby development in the local area.

Monmouth Near But Still Far Away

The final match of the season was played on one of the nicest days of the year with both sides keen to win as it affected league positions and pride, if not actual promotion or relegation.

Stern Test for Monmouth

A mid-week evening rearranged fixture is always difficult to fulfil, but when it is against a team bucking for promotion it promises to be doubly difficult.

And so it was to prove with only three regular 1st XV players in the starting line-up last Wednesday’s game at Abercarn but played at Newbridge saw the Monmouth youngsters 15 points down in as many minutes.

Monmouth Miss Double

Having beaten New Tredegar at home only the previous week, spirits were high of achieving the double on the journey to the Rhymney Valley, but they were dampened by the misleading diversion signs at the Heads of the Valleys roadworks which saw the kick off having to be significantly delayed.

The home team set off with great vigour and were first on the score–board within minutes with a penalty into the very brisk wind.

27-10 Win

A winning second half for Monmouth

Given a minute’s silence before the start in memory of the late Mark Ricketts, a stalwart supporter of Monmouth for many a year, it was not surprising that the home team started slowly, but not surprising either that it was his son, Rhys, who had to be relied upon to save an early score with a trade-mark devastating tackle.

New Tredegar were the visitors and their young-ish enthusiasm in the first half tended to make Monmouth work hard in defence with prop Green noticeably pulling off some good tackles.

Tries: J.Smith (2), Davies, J.Bezani
Conv: R.Ricketts (2)
Pen: R.Ricketts
