Druids v Drybrook (Home) 01 Nov 2003

36-5 Win

1XV v Cardiff HSOB (Away) 01 Nov 2003

9-9 Draw

The extent to which Saturday’s referee at Cardiff High School Old Boys insisted upon laying down ground rules before the game for spectators did not bode well, and after numerous re-set scrums in the first five minutes, it was clear that there would be many more interventions and much disappointment to come.

As usual at this venue the game was vigorous but clean and briefly Monmouth glimmered long enough for second row John Powell to cross the line only to be denied a good try by an unsighted referee.

Druids v Malvern (Away) 25 Oct 2003

40-3 Win

Druids v Drybrook (Away) 18 Oct 2003

15-15 Draw

1XV v St Josephs (Home) 18 Oct 2003

71-0 Win

After weeks of being 'nearly-rans', Monmouth took bottom of the table St Joseph's RFC from Cardiff apart, scoring 11 ties to none in what was still quite a hard fought game.

The backs at long last clicked with virtually all of them scoring and with right wing Tom Baker collecting four of them personally. Full back Ben Berry upstaged even that with 21 points from a try of his own and eight conversions.

Druids v Hereford (Away) 11 Oct 2003

5-15 Loss

1XV v Tredegar Ironsides (Away) 11 Oct 2003

5-6 Loss

Last Saturday Monmouth travelled to Tredegar Ironsides, where they played with more vigour than usual, dominated the front row battle, had ample possession, scored the only try of the game, with full back Brace hitting the upright from the left touchline and yet still they lost to the side below them in the league by a single point, 5-6.

Druids v Westbury (Home) 04 Oct 2003

31-0 Win

1XV v Chepstow (Home) 04 Oct 2003

6-18 Loss

Derby matches between Monmouth and Chepstow are always hard fought affairs and last Saturday's at the Sports Ground was no exception with Chepstow, who showed far greater vigour and will to win, running out comfortable 18 - 6 victors.

The continuing untypical weather ensured a dry hard pitch and a fast pace with many unpredictable bounces of the ball. One such occasion caused the first break-through after only five minutes when full back Brace failed to touch down a ball behind his own posts and Monmouth found themselves seven points down.

Druids v Ross (Home) 27 Sep 2003

13-8 Win
