1XV v Nantyglo (Home) 07 Dec 2002

Last Saturday Monmouth missed an opportunity to consolidate their league position by taking second place to visitors Nantyglo in a very evenly fought contest on the Sports Ground which Maddock Tool and Plant Hire had helped sponsor.

Druids v Llandaff (Away) 16 Nov 2002

1XV v Bedlinog (Home) 16 Nov 2002

5-24 Loss

In what should have been both the conditions and occasion to get their season back on a winning track, Saturday's visit to the Sports Ground by undefeated Bedlinog was to prove another disappointment for the local team.

Monmouth set about the game more fiercely than has been their recent custom, but Bedlinog with a rampaging back row, still looked to be the team who wanted to win more and the pressure they were achieving in the early stages led eventually to desperate infringement by the home defence and the award against them after fifteen minutes of a penalty try.

1XV v Cardiff HSOB (Away) 09 Nov 2002

9-21 Loss

A Monmouth side weakened by injury missed the chance to head their Cardiff High School Old Boys opponents by losing 9-21 when a win would have seen them move into the promotion grouping.

Despite trying hard right to the end, Monmouth never recovered from a first fifteen minute bombardment which brought the home side a thirteen point lead, first from two well struck penalties and then a converted try following a transfer along the line to the right wing who chipped his opponent to score.

Druids v Berry Hill (Home) 09 Nov 2002

21-14 Win

1XV v Aberdare (Home) 02 Nov 2002

23-26 Loss

In appalling weather and a keenly contested match, Monmouth came second best to their visitors from Division 6 Central, Aberdare last Saturday.

At the start the normal strength of the local team, their forwards, was lacking and initially seemed to be treating the game as the friendly it was and therefore something demanding less concentration then usual, which was a pity because their three-quarters were on song and itching to show their pace.
