Druids v Long Levens (XXXX) 15 Dec 2001

26-21 Win

1XV v Nantyglo (Away) 08 Dec 2001

14-22 Loss

One of those sunny crisp December days on a relatively dry pitch against League subordinates Nantyglo away last Saturday, suggested the chance of a win playing running rugby. The first ten minutes appeared to reinforce this view with first a scintillating try by Gareth Morgan converted by Rob Frost followed by similar excitement when fullback Dave Croudace was adjudged to have failed to ground the ball again in the right hand side of the goal line. …If only the referee had adjudicated differently… the game might have turned out a win.

Druids v Old Tylerians (XXXX) 08 Dec 2001

25-6 Win

1XV v Barry (Away) 01 Dec 2001

17-25 Loss

Hopes of beating league-leaders, Barry, were high in the Monmouth dressing room after four straight wins but an early try by the visitors from a driving maul made them soon realise what they were up against. The failed conversion was a measure of things to come and the potential lifeline it was to offer.

Heavy rain in the run-up to Saturday made for a muddier surface than usual but the day was crisp and clear with Barry taking first advantage of the wind and the low winter sun.

Druids v Newport Saracens (Home) 01 Dec 2001

0-13 Loss

The Druids were quietly confident before their home fixture against Newport Saracens. Perhaps it was because of their record of 8 wins in 10 matches or that they were back playing on their beloved Chippenham Mead after five games away from home.

What faced them was a strong, well organised Saracens side who were equally motivated. From the start the big forwards of the visitors forced the Druids on the back foot and their big, strong running centres caused severe problems for the home defenders.

1XV v Bream (Home) 24 Nov 2001

44-12 Win

Continued concentration on running rugby after the interval led to Bream being cracked open last Saturday by a Monmouth side continuing to improve in confidence.

On a pleasant autumnal afternoon, Bream came to Monmouth with a series of promising results behind them and a determination to give as good as they got. And within five minutes they had taken play deep into the Monmouth half and scored an unconverted try.

Druids v Berry Hill (Away) 24 Nov 2001

18-13 Win

Druids v Ledbury (Away) 17 Nov 2001

17-10 Win

For the fourth game in succession Monmouth Druids had to travel for a game of rugby. This time it was the well appointed venue of Ledbury that greeted the side that was strengthened by a sprinkling of first team players and six replacement players.

1XV v Ynysddu (Away) 10 Nov 2001

6-3 Win

After two disappointing months of the season last Saturday Monmouth RFC got itselfs back on track with a dogged 6-3 win away at Ynysddu.

The pre-match warm up ensured a first ten minutes which saw a shaken Ynysddu feverishly defending their line. But to come away from such a period of sustained pressure with a missed penalty and two disallowed tries and no points would have tested any side. Monmouth, however, plugged away until Frost was able to put them three points ahead with a well judged penalty from far out on the left.

Druids v Cinderford (Away) 10 Nov 2001

34-3 Win
