An 11 Try Bonanza.

Monmouth 67 Abertillery Blaenau Gwent 3

Monmouth's first home game in Division 2 East last Saturday was also special because it was treated as a celebration of the life of Max Davies who sadly passed away before the season began and was prefaced by a Young Rugby Guard of Honour and a minute's silence.

The 11 try bonanza that was to follow said it all - sparkling rugby played with a mix of determination, flair and passion - just as Max would have done.

1XV v Croesyceiliog (away) 01 Sep 2018

18-11 Win

Promising Start To The Season For Monmouth

In front of a bigger crowd than Monmouth is used to, the visitors withstood a strong start by a Croesyceiliog pack which seemed bigger and stronger than theirs, but resist with determination they did with strong tackling and good line speed.

1XV v Nelson (home) 18 Aug 2018

24-24 Draw

Mixed Emotions on Chippenham

Last Saturday brought the first full contact rugby of this season on Chippenham and some very mixed emotions at the same time.

The trial game between Division One visitors Nelson and Division Two newcomers Monmouth, should have been challenge enough without the fact that team mate and star player Max Davies had recently and tragically passed away, while Dafydd Hellard was away fighting hard against a serious illness.

1XV v Berry Hill (home) 25 Aug 2018

45-14 Win

With the formal rugby season still awaited, last Saturday attracted a large crowd to the now annual contest between Berry Hill and Monmouth in memory of Ian 'Sedge' Seymour, a former coach of both clubs.

This highlight was intended to be prefaced by a game between the veterans of both clubs and although many had dusted down their old boots, including Adam and David, Sedge's sons, there was a large number of Youth players on display, which caused some real 'oldies' to question whether they were likely to cope with the pace involved.
