U11 v Registration Day (Home) 01 Sep 2013

U11 v Abergavenny (Away) 05 May 2013

The Bears’ 33rd and final Sunday of rugby saw them conclude a difficult season at the Abergavenny Festival of Rugby, surely the second-best annual tournament in Gwent – I wonder which one is the number one?!!

Many of the players gave up their chance of playing their first cricket match of the season, choosing instead to see out the rugby calendar – given the hard ground, clear blue skies and a rarely seen yellow burning globe up above, I’m sure they wished they’d donned their whites and pads instead to face the likes of Tommo and Lillee, given the tough day that ensued!

U11 v Bromyard (Home) 24 Mar 2013

Monmouth Bears (Under 11s) Match Report – Sunday 03 March 2013

Monmouth Bears – Round-robin vs. Croesyceiliog and NHSOB (Away)

After three weeks without competitive rugby, a depleted Monmouth Bears team travelled to Croesyceiliog for a round-robin with the hosts and NHSOB.

U11 v Cwmbran (Away) 03 Feb 2013

10-40 Loss

After the heavy home defeat of the previous week against Cwmbran, Monmouth Bears travelled for the return fixture, again with a slightly depleted squad, this time bolstered with three under 10s players eager to impress. The question was would the Bears be able to learn from the lessons of the previous weekend, with real focus and concentration needed at the breakdown area?

Tries: Roderick Ho, Ollie Scriven

U11 v Cwmbran (Home) 27 Jan 2013

0-45 Loss

A much anticipated return to rugby following the Arctic conditions of the week before saw the Bears host strong opponents Cwmbran. It was disappointing that a combination of illnesses and prior commitments depleted numbers with only 11 Bears ready to face the challenge. Up stepped Griff Copley from the U9s to make his debut for the Bears and what a spirited effort he made – transfer forms are currently being prepared and fees under negotiation before the close of the transfer window!

U11 v Ledbury / Gwernyfed (Home) 13 Jan 2013

Monmouth Bears: Round-robin vs. Gwernyfed and Ledbury (Home)

Playing their first home game since the first weekend of November, Monmouth Bears hosted a round-robin involving Gwernyfed and Ledbury on a chilly bright morning at Chippie Fields. Gwernyfed, seeking revenge following their home loss to the Bears last month, were first up.

Match 1: Monmouth vs. Gwernyfed

U11 v Pontyclyn (Away) 06 Jan 2013

17-22 Loss

Monmouth Bears returned to competitive action for their opening game of 2013, their first in four weeks and only their fourth outing in the last ten weeks, by making the trek down the M4 to Pontyclun. How they’d fare, weighed down by an excess of mince pies and Christmas pudding over the festive break was anybody’s guess, but they knew they’d have to get back into the groove early-on against well-drilled opponents.

Tries: Henry Watkins, Alastair McIntosh & Will Green
Conv: Ben Pilot

U11 v Gwernyfed (Away) 09 Dec 2012

35-25 Win

After a two week enforced break from competitive action, due to water-logged and frost-bound pitches, Monmouth U11s faced the annual long trek up the mountains to take on fierce rivals Gwernyfed, who to date have proved to be the Bears’ bogey team. With a full squad at their disposal, would the Bears finally get the better of the big boys in green? Read on…..

Ties: Roderick Ho (2), Josh Lewis, Ben Pilot, Jonny Snell, Will Ruck & Ieuan Rose

U11 v Usk (Away) 18 Nov 2012

40-5 Win

A beautiful frosty autumn morning, with clear blue skies, provided perfect conditions as Monmouth Bears visited local rivals Usk. As ever, the hosts were struggling for numbers, so a rota was set up for two Monmouth players at a time to take it in turns to play for Usk, meaning neither team had replacements, but at least everyone would get to play a full game.

Tries: Josh Lewis (3), Ben Pilot (2), Jonny Snell, Zu McDermot, Raphael Kefalas
