Druids v Chepstow (Home) 14 Jan 2012

64-17 Win

Perfect Ten For Druids

Having defeated Chepstow conclusively earlier in the season, Monmouth Druids were looking to gain their third double of the campaign. The first fifteen took a couple of players from the squad but confidence was still high for this Pontypool & Newport League match.

The match turned out to be a resounding success for the Druids as they recorded a 64-17 victory. Ten cracking tries were scored with quick, clean handling and in some cases from within their own 22 metre area. Another feature was the support play which was first class from backs and forwards.

Four tries were scored in the first half and six in the second with only one being scored by a forward. Number Eight Joel Price, making a welcome return, was the sole ‘donkey’ to cross the whitewash. The backs took the scoring honours with Wing Gareth Jones touching down three times and fellow wing Tom Cratchley scoring twice.Full Back Mattie Morgan also scored two tries with Captain Dave Brace and newcomer Centre Gavin Jones completing the try scoring.

Dave Brace converted six tries as he marches onwards towards the 200 points for the season and Rob Frost added another. Chepstow never gave in and their three tries were thoroughly deserved. A handicap for them was having a player sent from play in the second period for foul play.

Ouside Half Aarun Price varied his game well and got his line moving to good effect. The wingers took full advantage of the early ball they received and could have scored more. So the ‘piano players’ put the points on the board but it was the ‘piano shifters’ who also deserve the praise. Hooker Mark ‘Jock’ Jones was outstanding with Second Row Andy Howells line out and general play top class. Not bad for ‘old uns’!.
