Tigers wake after summer break

Monmouth Tigers travelled to local rivals Abergavenny for their first game of the season with 14 available players, only to lose Horsfield to injury during the warm up. The home team who were more blessed in terms of squad numbers kindly offered to loan Monmouth 2 players, thus allowing a 15 man game.

Through a mix of sun and heavy rain what followed was 50 minutes of exciting Midi rugby, with the ball being moved from end to end in what was an exciting and open game of rugby.

A shuffling of positions within the Tigers back line did not help the cause but it was Abergavenny’s organisation at the breakdown that made the difference on the day.

The Tigers opened their account through Impey, followed by a fantastic individual effort from Brown who ran a try in from his own half directly from a pre-planned move off the base of the scrum, this was followed by a second, close quarter effort late in the game. All scores were well converted by Lane.

Well done to all the players who pushed Abergavenny all the way in this tight encounter, with a special mention to Ciaran Mann who played his best game in a Monmouth shirt.
