34-0 Win

Convincing Derby win for Monmouth U-13’s

Monmouth Under 13’s started the season in fine form at Chippenham Fields on Sunday with a convincing win over local rivals Abergavenny.
Monmouth got off to a perfect start straight from the kick off with back row forward Rhys Carlton securing the ball and driving through a bewildered looking Abergavenny defence to touchdown in the first minute. This try was duly converted by fly-half Louis MacFarlane.

Abergavenny then came back into the match and pressurised the home team in the first quarter of the game, though the Monmouth defence held strong and Rhys Carlton continued to apply the pressure with a second try as Monmouth broke out from defence with some excellent backs play. Winger Rhys Kedward added a third try for Monmouth with a run from just inside the halfway line.

Despite some good defence by Abergavenny, Monmouth prop forward Jack Davies scored his debut try for the club crashing over the line from short range. Centre Tom Watkins and Second Row forward Dylan Fletcher added further tries to secure an excellent victory for the home side.

Head coach Chris Webley credited all of the Monmouth boys for a spirited performance and the way that they played as a team and supported each-other throughout the match.

The Final Score was Monmouth 34 Abergavenny 0.
