U8 v Berry Hill (Away) 13 Nov 2011

The U8s travelled away to a sunny, calm Berry Hill on Sunday 13th. We fielded a team of eight and played three games, two full matches and one short 5 minute decider. As it was Remembrance Sunday we had a two minute silence before the matches.

The first game was won 4 tries to 1 and was a superb display of tag rugby. Probably the U8s best display so far this season. The tagging and running were both great and the support play was superb.

Unfortunately the second game was lost 3 tries to 1, largely down to some excellent running by Berry Hill and some slightly less impressive tagging by Monmouth.

With a few minutes left before lunch it was decided to have a 5 minute decider game. Berry Hill took the lead with an early try but Monmouth came back on the final whistle with a superb run along the touch line to score the equaliser.

Our thanks to Berry Hill for being excellent hosts and to the U8's parents for their vocal support.

This season the U8s have been awarding 'Man of the Match' trophies each game and a similar trophy on training days to the U8 that has improved most and tried hardest.

The Monmouth U8 'Man of the Match' this week was Charles Hazel for an all round excellent performance.

Mention must also go to Richard Jones for winning 'Man of the Match' last week in a bruising encounter with Gwernyfed and to James Coolican for winning the very first 'Man of the Match' trophy one week earlier in training.
