U8 v Pontyclunn (Home) 04 Dec 2011

Winter was in the air as the Chiefs limbered up for their match against Pontyclun today. Despite some absentees the boys went in to the first game full of confidence. Two matches were played with Pontyclun rotating their squads.

In the first game there was some good flowing rugby from both sides. The support play and passing from Monmouth were much improved. Monmouth started full of confidence but some poor tagging left them trailing 5-4 at the final whistle. Some great tries were scored by Joseph (2), Nicolaj and Finlay.

After time to regroup great things were hoped for in the second match. Unfortunately the first half saw some poor defence leading to Pontyclun taking a commanding 5-1 lead at half time. I'm still not sure what was in the half time drinks as the Chiefs came out and fought back magnificently to win 6-5 with the final try of the game in the dying seconds.

Excellent team work, good strong running from Richard and Charlie, support from Oliver and Edward and try's from Finlay (2), Nicolaj (3) and Joseph made the difference. James tagged like a demon. Nicolaj was awarded a well deserved man of the match for his strong running and match winning try.

Pontyclun were excellent guests and an enjoyable time was had by all.

The Chiefs are starting to blend as a team and their support for the ball carrier and enthusiasm for the game are a credit to them all.
