U9 v Hereford (Home) 11 Mar 2012

50-25 Win

On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning Monmouth played host to Hereford U9s at home. The two had not met before but initially it looked to be an evenly matched game.
They played four quarters, with Monmouth winning three halves and Hereford taking one.

The game was tiring and hard. It started out very fast - tackling was speedy and accurate and passing frequent on both sides. Monmouth took a while to reach their optimum, but as is so often the case, this proved to their advantage. Hereford seemed to tire in the 2nd quarters and the small lead quickly widened.

The Englishmen (and woman!) proved to have a strong physical presence and were good, fast opponents, particularly taking into account their adjustment to our Welsh rules.

Excellent team work once again by a strong Monmouth U9 side.

Special mention must go to Angus Whitehead, who scored 5 tries, several of which were after running the length of the pitch, Benedict Williams for his stead fast, reliable tackling and Oliver Scrivens for some out-standing runs. However, Henry Green was proclaimed his week's man of the match for his 2 outstanding trys in the face of relentless defending.

Tries: Angus Whitehead (5), Henry Green (2), Xavier Brevet, Oliver Scrivens, Benedict Williams
