31-13 Win

Monmouth Gain Revenge

After losing to Chepstow at the start of the season, Monmouth put the record straight by beating their visitors 31-13 last Saturday.

Monmouth started the more dominant and fly half Ricketts, who was to gain a personal haul of 21 points in the game, scored first after just five minutes with a try under the posts which he then converted.

Chepstow responded with an unconverted try from a rolling maul but were soon pegged back again by strong forward play and the dependable Ricketts with three further penalties before half time.

Chepstow obviously appreciated the breather and rallied to score first in the second half and again with a penalty of their own to narrow the score to 16-13 as Monmouth fell asleep for a while.

Ricketts again stepped up to the mark with a penalty and then fitness and resolve helped Monmouth gradually regain the upper hand with first a try by lock Sam Harding from a maul followed by a pushover try by No8 Griffiths, newly returned from suspension.

An added conversion from Ricketts completed his contribution of 21 points and for the team a solid and deserved rather than sparkling 31-13 win.

The Druids’ fixture had to be cancelled but the Youth triumphed 21-12 over arch rivals Abergavenny.

The much postponed Swalec Bowl game against Bettws is next week’s game away with a 2p.m. kick off.
