U10 v Croesyceiliog (Home) 30 Sep 2012

Some of the newer players in the Monmouth U10 squad showed great promise. Andrew Gissop tried several times to take advantage of his speed and made several valiant attempts to push the play forward. Ellis Shephard has fitted into the team well, and was undeterred this week by a solid oppoosition.

Morgan Wainwright, a returning player from the U8s, made some out-standing tackles and kept well ahead of play despite taking one particular heavy knock from one of the larger Crosey forwards. Overall, both teams turned out to be well matched opponents and despite Monmouth fighting hard, Croesy finished the first half 2-0 up.

At half time, the Monmouth boys received a strong talking to from coach, Tony Richards, and upped their game. As always, Monmouth played better in the 2nd half and came back with 2 tries. The strong Monmouth forwards enabled Angus Whitehead to power over the line and despite another well ran try from Lewis Richards,

Crosey also scored twice. It was a tough 2nd match of the season, but the Monmouth U10s played well, and left with renewed determination for next weeks tournament.

Final score, 4 - 2 to Croesy with a well deserved Lewis Richards as Man of the match.
