U9 v Ledbury / Gwernyfed (Home) 13 Jan 2013

A crisp clear morning saw the Chiefs entertain Gwernyfed and Ledbury at home in a round robin.

Gwernyfed played Ledbury first and dominated the game from the start to score 3 tries without reply from Ledbury despite the fact that Ledbury spent most of the second half in the oppositions half. The common consensus from the sidelines was that both teams were very evenly matched.

Monmouth then played a thoroughly warmed up Gwernyfed who swept the home team aside scoring 8 tries to the Chiefs one. Whilst no one could fault the home team’s spirit and ability to pass before tackled once again they were slow to get out the blocks and afforded the visitors far too much respect.

The last match saw a much better performance from the Chiefs against Ledbury but once again the Chiefs were punished for a lack of determination which was something the visitors had in abundance. Also the fact that both teams play to different rules was more than evident at times and fair play to the referee for guiding the teams through the differences much to the confusion of the spectators at times. Whilst the Chiefs doubled their previous tally to two tries Ledbury scored five to emerge victorious and deservedly so.

Overall Gwernyfed ran out winners on the day and everyone commented that the boys played some great passages of Rugby and always good to see the players given applause from all spectators irrespective of which team they played for.

Tries: Theo Mayell (2), Richard Jones
