U7 v Croesyceiliog (Home) 30 Sep 2012

15-4 Win

Today saw the first game of the season taking place in ideal conditions following last week’s training session in the rain.

The first half saw both sides displaying good skill levels with Monmouth taking an early lead with the score then swinging back and forth with both sides scoring on the back of skilful attacks. Monmouth ended the first half strongly having scored eight times with Croesy replying with 4 trys. The trys for Monmouth in the first half were scored by Thomas Williams (3), Harry Fernandez – Ford (2), Fergus Reed (1), Toby Davies (1) and Benjamin Holley (1).

The second half saw Monmouth coming out with steely determination having lost Sam Brennan within a minute of the restart, having injured his shoulder scoring the opening try of the second half. Monmouth mounted a fantastic team defence in the second half as well as a positive attack. The end result was that Croesy were unable to score despite their flowing attack. Monmouth managed to turn defence into attack and came away with a further 6 tries scored by Thomas Williams (4), Fergus Reed (1), and Toby Davies (1).

Great result for Griffins. Well done to all.

We all wish Sam a speedy recovery as we have now heard that he broke his collar bone and will be out of the game for at least 6 weeks. Best wishes Sam.
