U10 v Berry Hill (Away) 23 Sep 2012

In the driving rain Monmouth U10s began the season against Berry Hill. BerryHill have always come away second best to our stronger U10 side and this time was to be no different Monmouth turned up with respectable numbers - familiar faces from last year joined enthusiastic new members. An incomplete squad gave coaches Tony Richards and Brian Nixon the chance to play some of the newer boys and give them the opportunity to find their feet. Considering the rain did not let up from start to finish, all boys, new and old played brilliantly.

Particular credit should go to Benedict Williams for outstanding tackling - taking out one opponent 'like a freight train'. Oliver Scrivens (Man of the match) and Robbie Nixon were unstoppable with continuing forward support and a formidable 3 tries each with Robbie running one try, unchallenged from the half way line. An ever reliable Angus Whitehead maintained his try scoring form from last year with 2 well run tries. Lewis Richards' renewed confidence brought Monmouth a spectacular try in the 2nd half.

This left Monmouth the victors once again, the final score 9 - 4. A great start to the season.
