U11 v Abergavenny (Home) 03 Nov 2013

Monmouth U11s had a successful morning at home to Abergavenny and then Pontypool.

The Monmouth side worked well as a team, backs and forwards, to try to get the ball out wide. This worked well against Aber, with first half tries coming from the three quarters Oli Scrivens and Adam Davies. Harry Johnson scored well from fly half as the home side racked up six tries in all.

Kieron Williams led the front row well, with Hamish Lawson and James Williams using their physicality well from the second row. Rob Nixon played well in the centre, alternating running and distributing, whilst Xav Brevet made himself his usual nuisance to the opposition in the loose. Ellis Shepherd, Lewis Richards and Rob Nixon all volunteered to play for a period for Abergavenny too, each saying Monmouth were a difficult side to oppose. Matthew Arnell played well coming on from the bench in the later stages. Final score: 6 trys to Abergavenny's 1

Abergavenny were overcome by Pontypool United to set up the last game of the day......

Monmouth immediately found themselves under much more pressure from the United side and struggled to maintain the momentum of the first match. They managed to restrict the opposition to just one try in the first half, and Tony Richards' half time talk paid dividends, as they came out a different side for the last half of the day.

Oliver Williams and Oliver Light played well, with several well attempted runs from both. Monmouth applied much more pressure with Rui de Souza and Morgan Wainwright to the fore. Ben Williams' tackles earned him the Man of the Match Award, for thier power and frequency, enabling Monmouth to turn over opposition ball well. The equalizing try from Monmouth, converted by Harry Johnson, ensured Monmouth emerged the winners over all.

Many thanks to Andy Hunter for refereeing all three games.
