U11 v St. Julians (Away) 17 Nov 2013

St Julians beat Monmouth U11 Lions by nine tries to nil.

On Sunday 17th November, Monmouth were given a tough lesson in rugby at St Julian's Newport ground, by a team who, from the start, used their size and good support play to score regularly. Monmouth lacked intensity, fell off a few tackles, did not compete for the loose ball and suffered handling errors, all of which resulted in a seven-nil scoreline at half time, the referee warning Monmouth that he would have to call the game off at ten tries. A positive team talk from coaches DJ Williams, Philippe Brevet and Philip Davies during the break seemed to have a galvanizing effect on Monmouth, who returned a much better second half performance. Adam Davies performed well in the centre, both with and without the ball, Rui de Souza tackled and carried well and Harry Johnson made some trademark runs breaking the St Julians line. The team defended manfully, restricting their hosts to just two more tries. Morgan Wainwright was awarded man of the match for an
excellent all round display. The St Julians coach praised the Monmouth boys for their brave performance in the second half, and all agreed that the lads had learnt a good deal from a tough 40 minutes of rugby.
