U12 v St. Marys (Home) 08 Dec 2013

0-17 Loss

Despite struggling for numbers each week, Monmouth’s U12s continue to battle on valiantly, with team members having to play in unfamiliar positions and relying on the odd loaned player from other age-groups and even the opposition. With two new players also making their debut, it was good to see them giving their all against the physically much larger visitors.

The match itself was a tight and tense affair, with the teams reaching the break with the visitors one try ahead. The second half saw the home side continue to plug away, enjoying greater territory and possession but without any reward. It was thus disappointing for the result to be put out of their reach late-on, conceding two relatively soft tries through a combination of missed tackles and individual errors.

Debutant Josie was very prominent, nearly scoring a try with the last play of the game, but for a toe scraping the touch-line according to visiting linesman. Fellow debutant Aaron also played confidently on the wing, as did U11s star Ollie in the centre.

It is encouraging that this squad continues to remain upbeat, despite the narrow losses experienced recently. We can fix some things on the training ground, helping the newer players to develop, but what does not need any work is their team spirit, which is fantastic.

Big thanks to Gareth Rowlands for his coaching support, as well as to our loyal band of supporters.
