U10 v Cinderford (Away) 20 Oct 2013

Following on from last weekends inspiring training session the Chiefs took no less than 18 players to an impressive Cinderford ground for a round robin which included Berry Hill. Keen to avoid the impending deluge of rain we split the Chiefs into two teams – Blues and Whites.
In the game one the Blues were overwhelmed in the first half by Cinderford finding themselves losing by 6 clear tries but when Joseph scored on the stroke of half time the team suddenly woke up and the second half was like watching a completely different game with Nikolaj scoring again – Cinderford running out comfortable victors by 8 tries to 2.
Next game saw the Whites lose by 5 clear tries to Berry Hill which in fairness did not tell the real story as we fielded a lot of new recruits and the different version of the rules in England confused both parents and players alike!
Therefore the Chiefs decided to regroup and play each other. It was almost half time before Ethan scored his first of two tries for the Whites with Josh adding another. The Blues scored 3 in reply to make the final score 3 tries apiece. All Chiefs now warmed up and raring to go.

Monmouth Blues then played Berry Hill and this was by far the best game of the day. Everything clicked and the boys put on an awesome display of true grit and determination – teamwork was what took them to the brink of victory only for a Berry Hill player collecting the ball deep in his own half to charge through everyone in his wake to tie the scores at 4 tries each. Nikolaj scored 3 tries to make him top scorer on the day with Rhys adding the fourth. All tries only made possible by outstanding individual performances from all present and great crowd participation from all present. Who knows what we could have achieved if we were at full strength as we didn’t realise until half way through the second half that we were playing a man short!

The Whites were keen to carry on and therefore reduced their side to 7 players with subs to play a much depleted Cinderford side who clearly had experience and stamina plus size to their advantage as they ran in 5 tries without reply from the Whites.

Overall the Chiefs really upped their game today with a real sense of pride and teamwork resulting in them scoring no less than 13 tries across all matches.
