U9 v Berry Hill (Away) 20 Oct 2013

f you weren’t at Berry Hill today then you missed a brilliant pair of games. The team pulled together, worked together, talked and yelled at each other and gelled to win both their games in real style. Some fantastic turnovers, superb skills applied from weeks of training and some absolutely brilliant individual tries.

Berry Hill v Monmouth

A game of two halves which the Sharks dominated throughout. A brilliant try made by Finlay set the team off quickly followed with a super run from Matt to score the second of the game. Berry Hill came back soon after with two tries of their own followed with tries from Oscar, Dominic and Callum giving Sharks a super lead for the half time whistle. The team was a little confused with the English rules but sorted themselves out, with a little help from the 3 coaches at the half time talk.

The Sharks came out strongly for the second half and didn't concede a try! Superb play again from Finlay with a wonderfully deserved try. Oscar scored two great tries with a fabulous run three quarters of the pitch and lots of participation yells from the crowd. Dominic scored the final try of the game in the corner having exerted maximum effort throughout the match.

Monmouth v Cinderford

Back to back matches are often fraught with tired, heavy legs and a lot of tries scored. Yes, the latter of that is true for the Sharks but also great use of the substitutes helped the team feel refreshed and raring to go.

Cinderford had been watching our earlier match and had certainly found out who our more dominant players were and they came out fighting. However once again the tenacity & determination of the Sharks showed time and time again. Matt, Callum, Jack, Dominic and Mikey all scoring with great support and passing from the rest of the team. Cinderford pulled one back ending the first half. Again some super tackling. Dennis was getting quite stuck in and we lost count of the number of times he tackled the opposition.

Post half time a huddle formed on the pitch by the Sharks and they came from it ready to play.

Cinderford scored a try in this half but not before Matt had bagged two and Noah made the third. All down to the superb support play from the rest of the team. Great team talk continued on the pitch from the players maintaining their understanding of ball direction, position both in defence & attack. Two tries from Callum and a third from Matt concluded a fantastic game.

Angus, Rich and Joe agreed that absolutely everyone had pulled their weight and the training sessions were finally getting rewards on the pitch.
During the final team talk many were praised for their hard work, sheer determination and team play.

Angus commented on how the team were gelling and really working together especially since the coaches had decided to come off the pitch during games and let them make their own decisions. Natural leaders are beginning to shine with the team responding well to shouts and calls from each other.

Well done to everybody.

Brilliant support from the parents. The adrenalin was certainly running within the crowd and it was pleasing to hear shouts of praise for the opposition as well as our own players.
