U11 v Cinderford (Away) 20 Oct 2013

20-0 Win

Monmouth had a fabulous win away to Cinderford on Sunday 20th October scoring four tries to nil in a tough match under English, or Forest, rules.

The hosts were perhaps wary of Monmouth's pace and attacking back play out wide and set out the narrowest of pitches in order to encourage a forward dominated game. The Monmouth boys adapted well to the width and the ten-a-side format, keeping their opponents in the Cinderford half through large periods of the game.

It was agreed to play contested scrums, which was clearly to the hosts' advantage, but in all other aspects of play, Monmouth came out on top.

Centre Oli Scrivens still managed to find gaps with beguiling and persistant running, leading to two well taken tries, and a deserved Man of the Match award.

Captain Rob Nixon was one of a few players who was asked to switch positions to accommodate replacements, moving from centre to second row effectively and claiming Monmouth's last score.

Kieran Williams, Morgan Wainwright and Xav Brevet were always in the thick of the action, with Hamish Lawson and James Williams adding their power to the tackle. Lewis Richards played well at scrum half, allowing the backs to run straight over the gain line and gain important momentum with quick offloads.

Oli Williams and Harry Johnson each played a good half at stand-off, Harry forcing his way over for a try mid way through the second period. Angus Whitehead made some strong runs into the opposition defence and covered well in his own 22 as Cinderford kicked the ball from their own half, largely out of frustration.

Owen Roberts, Matthew Arnell and Dylan Walters also played their part in an excellent win.

Tries: Oli Scrivens (2), Harry Johnson, Rob Nixon
