U14 v Chepstow (Home) 15 Dec 2013

25-5 Win

Monmouth Tigers welcomed Chepstow to Chippy Fields on a wet and windy Sunday morning, the first time the two sides had met in a 15 aside game. On first glance it would appear poised to be a well balanced encounter, however the poor conditions and muddy pitch would no doubt influence the outcome.

Inevitably given the weather the game was destined to be determined by the forwards and domination in the aspect of the game was quietly moving in Monmouth's favour as the game progressed. Hard work at the scrum and breakdown, combined with better decision making at half back and continuity in the backs led to some well worked tries. Chepstow struggled to find any rhythm aside from some individual efforts from their centres and back row. Monmouth exerted pressure on the gain line which resulted in forced errors and a number of key penalties were exploited by the quick thinking of the home team.

Monmouth's overall game management and team work on the day in the poor conditions was the difference between the two sides in what was a exciting game of midi rugby. A big thank you to parents and volunteers for making the day possible, all of whom managed to dry out with a warm welcome in the newly refurbished clubhouse after the game.
