U11 v Newbridge (Home) 26 Jan 2014

64-0 Win

On a wet and windy Sunday morning, Monmouth U11s put together one of their best performances to date in beating Newbridge by ten tries to nil. Coach Tony Richards said it was the best he had seen his team play with ALL eighteen players contributing well.

Before the game, Tony had decided to start with a number of changes from the usual back line, to give different players more experience. Ellis Shepherd started at scrum half and played well, feeding Charlie Weldon at ten, who once more showed talent passing, running and beneath the high ball too. Charlie scored a fine individual try near the end of the first half.

Adam Davies showed versatility, starting in the centre rather than on the wing, linking well and using his strength and then pace to score two good tries. Harry Johnson played well at full back, coming into the line and going forward well. He was to score the last two tries of the day, finishing both from long range. Harry Friend started on the wing, and saw a surprising amount of the ball, given the conditions. He used his pace to score from half way during the second period.

Up front, the Monmouth forwards were competitive for both the ball and the tackle, led by Man of the Match Ben Williams who forced his way over the line once in each half. Rui de Souza and Xavier Brevet were vying to see who could get the muddier, whilst securing plenty of opposition ball; Xav opening the scoring shortly after the kick off.

Angus Whitehead returned to the second row well making some hard yards and hard tackles. Oliver Scrivens made his mark immediately upon coming on for the second half with a good solo try.

Overall, the coaching team were delighted with the morning's work, and were pleased they were able to play the match. Next Sunday, the U11s are scheduled to be in Bromyard.
