Under 11's v Drybrook

After last weeks comfortable win over Tredegar, Monmouth U11’s played host to Drybrook and were keen to keep the momentum going with a another win. Drybrook won the toss and elected to kick off. Sean McMahon caught the ball and immediately ran the ball back into Drybrook’s half and from the resulting ruck, Daniel Dunmore took the ball and ran into the corner for Monmouth’s first try. The Drybrook try line was under constant bombardment from the Monmouth attack, which resuted in two tries from Max Senior and another from Sean McMahon within a fifteen minute spell. George Lancaster converted all four conversions to make the score 28-0. There was still time for Ben Zorab to run in another try following a Monmouth scrum. The conversion was completed to make the score 35-0 at half time.

The second half continued in the same vane with the forwards controlling the game. This was due to good work from forwards Andrew Morgan, Archie Waller, Joe Bazani, Nico McCord and Dan Edwards. Drybrook were now making a lot of errors and it wasn’t long before Joe Light recovered the ball to run in Monmouth’s sixth try.

Monmouth were passing the ball with relative ease, and good running from Hamish Lindsay broke the Drybrook defence and a pass inside allowed Jacob Webley to go through to score the seventh try. This made the score 45-0.

Drybrook bolstered their defence to try and keep the scoreline respectable, which worked for about 10 minutes until a Monmouth scrum allowed Jack Donovan to take the ball through for try number eight. After the restart the pressure was back on the Drybrook line, where a Monmouth maul allowed Joe Light to go over the try line. However, referee John Dunmore decided the ball had not been grounded, and from the resulting scrum, Joe was given a second chance and this time made no mistake. This gave a final score of 55-0.

A special thanks to Finley Ratcliffe Nico McCord and Ieuan Gale for their efforts on the Drybrook side who were fielding an under strength team.

Monmouth travel to Caldicot next week to face a much stiffer test.
