Ireland Tour 2004 – Waterford, Ireland (April 15th to April 18th 2004)

Under 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13’s

On Thursday, April 15th 2004, over 130 players and parents of the junior section of Monmouth Rugby Club boarded three coaches bound for Waterford in Southern Ireland, for a four day Rugby Tour.

The club took six teams, ranging from Under 8’s through to Under 13’s, with over 60 players taking part and following successful end of season tournaments at Thornbury, near Bristol, morale was high and the excitement was building.

Two local teams, Kilfeacle and District RFC and Waterpark RFC, were hosting the junior matches and they provided excellent opposition.

Against Kilfeacle there were good wins for the Under 11’s and Under 9’s with a draw against the Under 8’s. A very sociable evening followed with many friends made by both parents and players alike.

The following day, we made our way to Waterpark RFC, a local Waterford based team. Good wins were enjoyed by the Under 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s and it was very pleasing to see all our sides passing the ball, supporting the ball carrier and making those important tackles, thereby ensuring the best possible result. A BBQ, provided by our hosts, followed the matches and was accompanied by the occasional Guinness for the parents.

The final evening of the Tour provided the opportunity for all parents and players to enjoy an end of season dinner which was accompanied by our annual awards ceremony for the players. Over 145 parents, players and friends met at the Grand Hotel, in Tramore, near Waterford for what proved to be an enjoyable and fun evening for everyone.

The Monmouth Rugby Club, junior section, continues to expand with over 110 registered players this season playing at all levels up to Under 14. Our new season will begin on Sunday 5th September 2004 with player registration, at 10.30am and we will aim to run a number of pre-season events which can be attended by new and existing players alike.
