chairman's welcome
After last season, which due to the weather was one of the longest ever, Monmouth's players certainly deserved and looked forward to their summer break. With the new season we as a club must now put up a new challenge for promotion after coming runner's up last season and losing out to Neath Athletic RFC in the play offs.
Matt Ricketts will lead the side for a second time after acquitting himself well as 1st XV Captain last season.
Ian Seymour and Martin Davies will be in harness on the coaching side and will be hoping for a big effort again this year. There will also be opportunities for some of last year's Youth players to push for senior team places, which can only enhance the senior laying sides.
Dave Brace will lead the Druids XV and had plenty of experience in leading the side when Brad Morgan stepped up to the 1st's last season. The Druids will be aiming for a higher league finish and a good cup run this season, if they can get all their players available on a regular basis and without too many 1st XV call ups due to injuries.
The Youth go from strength to strength and this season will be joined by last years crop of Under 16's who will be looking to establish themselves in the side. With Cedric Steele retiring from Youth coaching after three hard season's work, the Youth coaching team will be bolstered by last years Under 16’s coaches, Drew Musselbrook and Mike Boycott who will assist Tim Morris this season.
Young Rugby in Monmouth will again run sides from Under 8's to Under 16's where all new player's are welcome. The registration day will be Sunday 4th September. All Young Rugby age group contact details can be found at the front of the handbook and here on our website.
Best wishes and good luck to all of our teams for the coming season. May it be an enjoyable and successful season.
All of our contact details can also be found on the club’s website.
