Monmouth Race Away To Win At Usk

Monmouth started off in their usual manner, intent on attack as a form of defence, running ball, sometimes dangerously, from deep within their 22, but with fullback Nove on fine form, deep incursions towards the Usk half were always possible, aided a little apparently by a shortage of usual back-rowers in the home team.

1XV v RTB Ebbw Vale (away) 21 Apr 2018

83-17 Win

A Bumber Win

In glorious weather it took Monmouth full back, Amosa Nove, just seven minutes to score his third try to set up the rout that was to become a 17-83 victory at RTB Ebbw Vale last Saturday.

Slow out of the blocks, the hosts were quite taken aback by the pace and breadth of the early Monmouth attacks, who, in turn, were altogether quickly on fire with charging runs by their forwards and with hooker Bartlett proving an early handful and scrum half White always looking for opportunities.

59-13 Win

Back to (Comprehensive) winning ways!

With attention now having necessarily returned to the League with its several outstanding games, Monmouth started off perhaps a little too keen to impress.

Within three minutes they had conceded three penalties due to their overeagerness not meeting with the way in which the referee wished to run the match. Fortunately none were within kickable distance as the visiting outside-half was later to show his talent in this respect.

1XV v Chepstow (home) 17 Feb 2018

54-13 Win

Comfortable win for Monmouth

With the layoff due to the 6 Nations Internationals showing in early rustiness, Monmouth were three points down to a 35 metre penalty to bottom of the league Chepstow from the very first ruck of the game in what was to be a curious game of ups and downs despite the final points difference.

8-6 Win

Monmouth Hang on For Another Win

Extensive fog over the Lydart last Saturday with heavy drizzle lower down, bode ill for weather conditions at Abertysswg, near the top of the Rhymney Valley where Monmouth were due to play their most recent National League Division 3A.

But surprise, surprise, apart from general dampness and a greasy surface all was well, apart from a short pitch which played into the hands of line–kickers, or perhaps, in the case of Monmouth, one should say ‘should have done’.

1XV v Hafodyrynys (away) 13 Jan 2018

16-9 Win

With Newtown having conceded their December game, Monmouth moved on last Saturday to the next round of the Bowl and known opponents in Hafodyrynys.

Knowing their own pitch well, Hafod kicked off up the slope hoping to seal the game later, by playing down into their favourite deep corners, but first, thanks to a penalty for a high tackle, they were 3-0 up almost immediately.

The early pressure came from the home team, aided by Monmouth seeming slow to catch alight, epitomised by a casual run back over his line by White the full back to touch down just in time a deep kick through.

1XV v Tredegar Ironsides (home) 06 Jan 2018

17-0 Win

Disappointment Despite Win for Monmouth

On a bitterly cold but clear day, Monmouth entertained Tredegar Ironsides last Saturday who they had defeated comfortably away in late September.

Despite recent inclement weather the pitch, which drains very well, seemed all but perfect for another contest with the pack dominating in the scrums and the backs playing the free flowing game supporters have become used to seeing.
