U12 v St Josephs (Home) 23 Jan 2011

10-17 Loss

Monmouth Young Rugby under 12’s had a gruelling contest at home last weekend against Newport based oppositions St Joseph. The past matches between these two teams have always been closely fought, and Sunday’s game was no exception.

Monmouth kicked off the game and St Joseph immediately gathered the ball and fed it to their unusually large centre (who would not have looked out of place in the under 16 youth team), and he stormed through the Monmouth back line and scored a try in the first minute of the game. This try was duly converted, and Monmouth were 7-0 down.

Tries: Rhys Kedward, Henry Shirlaw

This was quickly followed by an excellent try by second row forward Rhys Carlton who broke free from a ruck to score under the posts.

10-12 Loss

Nail-biting start for Monmouth Under 12’s

Monmouth under 12’s travelled away to St Joseph’s in Newport on Sunday 3rd October, for their first match of the season. It was an exceptionally wet morning – in fact the rain was so bad that the other slightly less important sporting event in area (The Ryder Cup) had to be postponed.

Monmouth’s spirits were not dampened though, the boys played their first 15 a-side match on a full pitch with excellent spirits, and proudly represented their home town with some excellent skills – especially in the rucks and mauls.

Tries: Rhys Carlton, Max Webley
