Training on Chippie confirmed this Sunday. Please be there ready to start at 10.30am.
We also need two volunteers to help with the catering please. It was supposed to be the U11s this week, but they are now away so have swapped weeks with us. A little help to prepare after 10.30 and some time when the boys have finished to serve up. Please let me know if you are able to help.
Great conditions for playing rugby last Sunday, thanks for the 23 boys that made it to play St Julian’s. We mixed the teams up again this week and all 3 were filled with exciting end to end rugby and as expected the games did get a little physical at times, roll on contact! The games end 4 v 5, 3 v 3 and 2 v 2. Congratulations to those boys that managed to play rugby and make it to their Karate grading and well done to those boys who tried to move their grading to play rugby! But couldn’t do both because of timings.
Monmouth V Ross
2 wins 1 loss
6 v 4, 5 v 1 & 4 v 5
Monmouth 2 wins and 1 draw (4 v 2, 5 v 0, 3 v 3)
Griffins visited a cold and wet Gwernyfed on Sunday morning with 14 boys. As it happened Gwernyfed had exactly 14 boys so we both ran out two teams making sure the boys had plenty of game time with 2 games each.
A really good day for the Griffins with 3 wins and a loss. The wins came from fantastic defence. The loss came from the weaker Monmouth side against a rejigged Gwernyfed side which contained all their best players in the last game to ensure a win. By this time the Monmouth team were cold and wet from standing around since their initial win.
2 V 5
1 V 7
3 V 6
Lovely dry day with another great turnout from 21 boys including another new squad member, welcome Sam Chamberlain. We now have a squad of 28 boys with over 20 turning out every week, which is fantastic.
What a great day. Crisp and dry, but the pitches were a bit sticky in Hereford. We don’t very often come across teams with squads as large as ours so a visit to Hereford turned out really well as they had 22 boys to match our 22 boys, which made a great change from the week before when we took 25 boys to St Julians to find out on arrival they only had 9 boys!
As Hereford had so many boys we played on three pitches and ran three teams each which made for 9 thrilling games.
Team 1 – 3 wins
0 V 9
5 V 10
5 V 9
Team 2 – 1 draw, 2 wins
5 V 5
1 V 7
3 V 6
Team 3 – 2 draws, 1 loss
3 V 4 – Monmouth Win
3 v 2 – Monmouth Lost
4 v 4 – Draw
Cold and damp morning and St Julian’s only had 9 players. Close game first with a win for Monmouth. Second game saw Monmouth lose in the last seconds of the game with only 5 players left on the pitch with 3 off injured (don’t you just love tag rugby!)
Last game saw Monmouth score a try in the last minute to clinch a well- deserved draw.
The St Julians coach was very impressed with our turn out for an away game. Well done to the 25 boys and parents who made the trip – Thank you.
This weekend saw the sunshine returning to Chippenham Fields with most teams playing at home. The Griffins – Monmouths U8’s were delighted to welcome Abergavenny and Pontypool.
The Griffins had a great turnout as usual, despite it being half term. The Griffins had 18 boys from their squad of 27 available so put out two strong sides which made for a really enjoyable morning of rugby for all with all the players getting a few games.
