120 Diners joined together in the Boys School last Saturday for Monmouth Rugby Club’s Annual Presentation Dinner Dance. Star of the evening was 1 st XV scrum half Gareth Morgan who was acclaimed the Player of the Year and also the Players’ Player of the Year, but close behind came Clubman of the Year, Andrew Lewis, who combined running Wyesham’s former Spar Shop with Managing the 1 st XV through a difficult year on the field, as well as being Social Secretary and also playing the predominant role in arranging such a well organised and successful end of season Tour to Portugal. Russell Hoggins and Keith Miles were the most promising members of the two adult sides respectively and Tom Baker won the accolade and the Falklands Shield as the Young Player of the Year. The older members of the playing strength were not left out though with Rob Prewett being chosen as the Druids’ Player of the Year and with his scrum half compatriot, Andy Tansill receiving the recognition he deserved as the Druids’ Players’ Player for the 2005/06 season. Six players earned their respective team’s colours with a large number earning theirs again in recognition of their maximising the number of games they had played yet again. Club Chairman Mel Wheeler detailed the extent of activities of the Club and highlighted the fact that with the Junior Section, ‘Young Rugby, as well, Monmouth RFC was now the third largest Club in the whole of the Gwent Regional Area, before announcing that Kelly Lehemann had been chosen as 1 st XV Captain and Mark ‘Jock’ Jones taking on the same role for the Druids. He felt sure the Club would continue to grow under their leadership and thanked all those who had made it such a successful season. Those present then danced the night away to The Beetles with Compere Wayne Weston, only occasionally being lost for words having been commended for being Portuguese Tourist of the Year. All in all a jolly good night was had by all!
