Six Nations Gilbert Ball

Tuesday the third of February saw MRFC welcome into Wales the "Doing it for Heroes" team as they neared the end of their epic walk from the City of London to Cardiff with the Gilbert Match Ball for the opening fixture of the RBS 6 Nations Series between Wales and England.

Help for Heroes supporters, players from young rugby, Senior First Team Captain, Sam Harding, Club Chairmen Lloyd Davies and Jonathan Henry along with senior club officials and proud parents ensured a warm reception as the team carried the Gilbert Match Ball across the threshold into Monmouth Rugby Club.

Being the first rugby club that the team would encounter as they walked into Wales, MRFC felt it only fitting that they opened their doors to host a fund raising event for a charity which has very emotive ties to the club given their many military connections through players ,families and those who have fallen in conflicts defending our country.

The "Doing it for Heroes" team on the night comprised Chief Petty Officers from the Royal Navy Andy "Gibbo" Gibbs and Tyrone "Ty" Stock along with Colour Sergeant Royal Marines Andy "Crofty" Crofts.

Selfies galore were taken by those in attendance who were more than happy to make a contribution to the Help for Heroes charity in return for a photograph holding the Gilbert Match Ball.

An amazing opportunity for the young rugby stars of the future to participate in such an inspirational event whilst supporting such a worthwhile cause. Telephone: +44 (0)1600 712309 Email: [email protected] copyright Monmouth RFC 2019
