Senior Club Awards

Members of Monmouth RFC enjoyed a memorable Senior Club Awards evening recently, with former Wales International Ian Gough the guest speaker and former Club Chairman and player Tommy Morgan the honoured guest for the evening.

A full turn out enjoyed a splendid three course meal, courtesy of Club Stewardess Emma Henry and her team ahead of the presentation of awards. Young Player of the Year and Falklands Shield winner was Shaun Brosnan, who was also awarded his Colours. Druids awards were given to Luke Whorton, James Pardoe and Morgan Jeffs and colours were awarded to Morgan Jeffs, Tom Wellington, Luke Whorton, James Pardoe, Mark Buffin and Sam Hogan.

The First XV Payer of the Year Award was Zen Szwagrzak, Most Promising Player was Ed White with Amosa Nove winning Players Player of the Year. William Copley veterans awards were presented to Spud Davies & Dickie McLennan in recognition of their commitment and hard work this season. The Chairman’s Cup this year was awarded to Pete Walters and Jeff Scourfield for their incredible rugby correspondence work; Emma and Jon Henry for their excellent Stewardship and MYR roles at the club and Sam Parsons for his hard work and fortitude as Club Captain and top points scorer this season. Kevin Pritchard won the posthumous Clubman of the Year Award.

A Special Recognition Award was given to wing/centre James Smith who embarks on a period of travel - his never say die attitude and fearlessness was praised by his fellow players. Secretary Byron Hapgood received an award for exceptional services to Monmouth RFC and surprised Lloyd Davies with an additional award recognising the Club Chairman for his outstanding efforts in delivering a number of major initiatives and his commitment to the Club during his five seasons as Senior Club Chairman.

The raffle for the evening raised over £500.00 for the Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice. Both Chairman Lloyd Davies and guest speaker Ian Gough trekked the Great Wall of China last month and, together with the other trekkers, have helped to raise over £65,000.00 for the hospice, with over £12,500.00 being raised by Monmouth RFC club members, including Georgia and Jasmine Davies and Jayne Smith.
