U11 v St Julians (Home) 06 Feb 2011

20-10 Win

The Tigers welcomed St Julians (HSOB) to Chippie and were once again forced to make positional changes as a result of long term illness and injury. This resulted in Josh Hughes switching to the number 10 position and Jamie Bell-Thomas wearing the captains arm band. St Julian's travelled with a strong squad and support from the touchline, for what was an entertaining game of mini rugby.

The Tigers started strongly, developing go-forward from the off with strong support running and decision making from the off. This resulted in the first try being scored by Bell-Thomas within the first few minutes. This set the pattern for the first half with the Tigers dominating the breakdown with fast and effective re-cycling of the ball. At the end of the period a further two tries had been secured courtesy of Hughes from close quarters and Brett Thomas from a darting run.

St Julians settled themselves for the second half and after some strong running were able to claw back a few scores but thanks to a strong run Bell-Thomas secured the game for the Tigers in the last 5 minutes of the game.

A big pat on the back to Max Roberts, Dan Williams and Daf Amu who operated like a true front row unit throughout the game. Also a special mention to Jago Strong Wright, who played his best game to date in a Monmouth shirt in a supporting role to Joe Impey in the second row.

Next week home to Chepstow.

Tries: Jamie Bell-Thomas(2), Josh Hughes, Brett Thomas
