U9 v St. Josephs (Home) 22 Sep 2013

30-0 Win

A surprisingly warm Sunday for late September saw the Sharks don their new kit and take to the field for their first competitive game of contact rugby. Having warmed up with a 4 – 0 victory over their older club mates the Chiefs earlier in the week the Sharks certainly had confidence on their side if not experience against a St Joseph side that had already completed 3 competitive matches this season.

The first half saw the Sharks rampant; running in 4 tries which gave them a commanding lead which was never to be relinquished. In fact the second half saw the Sharks add another two tries without reply despite determined efforts from St Josephs. Whilst the try count was high do not be deceived as what won the Sharks the game was their tenacious tackling throughout the game. The boys dug deep at times as a team and whilst very much in the embryonic stages the future looks bright for the Sharks.

Thank you to Steve McCoy for stepping into to referee at short notice and most pleasing to see the warm applause given to both teams throughout the match and then it was a short walk to the newly refurbished clubhouse for some well deserved hot food and rehydration.

Tries: Dennis Spooner (2), Mattie Cotton (2), Dylan Denne and Finlay Robertson
