U9 v St. Julians (Away) 17 Nov 2013

50-0 Win

A damp November morning it may have been but the Sharks were on fire from the first whistle!

Mattie off the first tap ran straight up the middle of the pitch through St Julian's defence line to score the first try and set the tone for the first half with the Sharks rampant.

A couple of minutes later after some good passing the Sharks overturned the ball with Oscar running in a superb try.  Finlay made it three having tackled St Julian's leading them to knock on and a Shark scrum. Callum followed with a try of his own side stepping the defence before planting the ball on the try line and was quickly matched with Oscar’s second try adding to the Sharks lead.  The last play of the half saw Mattie intercept the ball in a mid air pass running from the half way line to score his second try.

The second half saw St Julian's raise the game and for some time the Sharks were on the back foot in their own half putting up a resolute defence.  Then Cornelius stepped up the pace and exploded out of his own half to score. Not to be left out George saw an opportunity to run and with the crowd behind him passed off a tackle and continued on to score in true Shark style. Callum dodged the defence line and scored his second with Dylan Denne scoring the final try of the match with an emphatic run down the line and in to the corner to plant the ball at his Mum and Dads feet – Brilliant! Thank you to all the Sharks who volunteered to make up the numbers for St Julian’s as without their kindness there would have been no match.

A great day of rugby showing the Sharks at their best, working together and scoring together. Superb team dynamics ensured they kept a clean sheet. Great sportsmanship was shown by players and crowd alike with a resounding three cheers for each team and applause for all at the end of play before heading off to the clubhouse to partake in the kind hospitality shown by St Julian’s.

Tries: Mattie Cotton (2), Oscar Battersby (2), Callum Uttley (2), Cornelius Madler, Dylan Denne, George Rowlands and Finlay Robertson
