U9 v Abergavenny (Home) 03 Nov 2013

Super Sunday eat your heart out.  The sun was shining and the Sharks entertained local rivals Abergavenny on the Chippie.

Two twenty minute matches were held and both teams had the depth in numbers to provide two sides. The Sharks were split into Tigers and Whites.

Tiger Sharks
Tiger Sharks were out first and within two minutes Oscar put them . His desire to score that quick try set the pace for the rest of the half. Some great passing, scrums and thought was making the match a really good one to watch. Oscar ended the first half with a second try!

The second half took a while to gain momentum but a try from Finlay followed quickly by Dylan Denne pushed the score along.  A superb local encounter ensued with hard hitting tackles and plenty of effort from both sides ended with a try scored by Abergavenny.

In the final play of the half Callum ran in a late try to ensure the Tiger Sharks emerged victorious by 5 tries to 1.

Tries: Oscar 2, Dylan Denne, Finlay Robertson and Callum Uttley

White Sharks
The White Sharks had a tough act to emulate and they came out determined to uphold team honour. A phenomenal run from Jack Buckner from deep within his own half ended with a try giving the Whites the lead. Abergavenny responded with a superb nifty dodge from their centre player who set his team up for a try. A good amount of tackling, turnovers and scrums set Abergavenny up for a second try giving them the lead. An awesome run from Cornelius, head down and charging alone put the Whites in a great position and on the next play the ball was handed back to Cornelius to score and bring the game level.

Great pressure was applied by the White Sharks at the restart maintaining possession in the Abergavenny half.  Heads were up, passes were being made and after a couple of turnovers on fire Jack Buckner planted a try in the corner.
Abergavenny came back but could not penetrate the Sharks defence to get the try their play warranted. Again support, good play and determination from the Whites put the ball in Jacks hands and he scored his third try ensuring the Sharks ran out winners by 4 tries to 3.
Great to see such warm applause from all supporters who watched some great young Rugby in glorious sunshine.

To end the day a further ten minute, one way game was held. Legs were tired but both teams gave their all. Close as it was credit to all the boys from both teams must be given as it was end to end dogged determination. Superb play and even more use of the field.  It ended Sharks 1:0 Abergavenny.

Well done to all participants. Man of the match for the Sharks was renamed men of the match today as they all gave everything they had taking the game to Abergavenny and emerging victorious.

Then it was back to the recently refurbished clubhouse to enjoy some well deserved hot food in fantastic surroundings.
