U13 v Croesyceiliog (home) 11 Oct 2015

24-15 Win

Tough first half, Monmouth scored early in the half through a storming run by Jamie Strachen through the middle, Monmouth quickly took advantage and stormed through the Croesy defence putting the ball though the hands for Woody Shaw to touch down only for the try to be disallowed through an infringement. Croesy came back at Monmouth quickly and drove down the pitch, Monmouth then conceded a penalty on their own try line, which the visiting team took quickly and touched down. Just before half time Jonathan Pearce managed to rip the ball in midfield and sprinted towards the try line with the opposition in pursuit, he touching down next to the posts giving Charlie Weldon an easy opportunity to get the additional points.

A few changes were made for the second half, with the both the pack and backs being altered – Croesy got in two quick tries down the L/h wing, Monmouth regrouped and addressed the issues coming back even stronger – the ball was put through the hands with first Charlie Weldon touching down on the left wing and the converting his own try, this was followed by Angus Whitehead going over in the corner for another fine try.

Some points of note from the half was Matty Arnell taking two scrums against the head, some excellent tackling by Che Theaker in the centre, impressive ruck clearouts by Xav Turner and the fact that the whole team were communicating effectively – especially out in the backs.

No man of the match this week, the coaches were impressed with all players – well done.
