Another Try Feast As Monmouth Win Promotion

In a rearranged game, Monmouth playing against a gallant but already relegated Chepstow managed 11 tries to 3 against to win 73-19 and clinch promotion to Division 2A.

On a glorious evening in front of a large crowd, try scoring new club record holder Nove was off the mark when he outflanked the defence after an excellent break and pass by full back White. Inside 20 minutes he had scored twice more and White another to gain a try scoring bonus point.

1XV v Machen (away) 05 May 2018

79-12 Win

Machen Routed

On the hottest day of the year thus far, Monmouth were spared having to play the full 80 minutes of the game against Machen last Saturday when the referee blew up early with both captains’ agreement, with the score at 12-79 and and with a quarter of an hour left to play.

In what was an important game for Monmouth to win in their pursuit of league promotion, full back and centre Nove had scored his first of eight tries within three minutes of the start following a destructive drive in a scrum.

Tries: A.Nove (8), White, M.Tabb, Penalty, M.Davies

30-22 Win

League Champions Go Up With Another Win

Abergavenny provided the opposition for the last game of the season on Chippenham knowing that a four try bonus point win would see them joining Monmouth in League 2A East next season.

They put Monmouth under considerable pressure for much of the match and although they scored their crucial fourth try in the closing minutes of the game, the lead the fourteen man local team had generated by then prevented the win they needed.

Monmouth Race Away To Win At Usk

Monmouth started off in their usual manner, intent on attack as a form of defence, running ball, sometimes dangerously, from deep within their 22, but with fullback Nove on fine form, deep incursions towards the Usk half were always possible, aided a little apparently by a shortage of usual back-rowers in the home team.

1XV v RTB Ebbw Vale (away) 21 Apr 2018

83-17 Win

A Bumber Win

In glorious weather it took Monmouth full back, Amosa Nove, just seven minutes to score his third try to set up the rout that was to become a 17-83 victory at RTB Ebbw Vale last Saturday.

Slow out of the blocks, the hosts were quite taken aback by the pace and breadth of the early Monmouth attacks, who, in turn, were altogether quickly on fire with charging runs by their forwards and with hooker Bartlett proving an early handful and scrum half White always looking for opportunities.

59-13 Win

Back to (Comprehensive) winning ways!

With attention now having necessarily returned to the League with its several outstanding games, Monmouth started off perhaps a little too keen to impress.

Within three minutes they had conceded three penalties due to their overeagerness not meeting with the way in which the referee wished to run the match. Fortunately none were within kickable distance as the visiting outside-half was later to show his talent in this respect.

Tries: Hellard, Williams, Nove (2), Paley, White, Davies, Davies
Conv: Davies (4)
